Plasterwork - Ornamental

Ffion Blench is a plain and decorative plasterer who has worked in Scotland for over twenty years.

Ffion will be talking about her love of the plasterers’ trade, it’s traditional materials and techniques, with a focus on the fascinating art of scagliola - a technique invented in the late 16th century to imitate marble and semiprecious stones.

Ffion studied Fine art sculpture at the university of Brighton and moved to Scotland in 2002 where she completed a plastering apprenticeship at Telford college.   From 2004 to 2016 she worked as a plain and decorative plaster for David Fisher and sons.  Ffion went on to establish her own business and continues to carry out traditional restoration work as well as creating contemporary designs and art works using traditional techniques.

During her career Ffion has worked on a range of prestigious buildings including General Register House, the Assembly rooms and Stirling Castle as well as exhibiting work at the Royal Academy summer exhibition, Venice craft biennale and Dundee Design Festival.
