Mhairi Collie OBE is a consultant surgeon in Edinburgh. Since 2001 she has regularly undertaken surgery in sub Saharan Africa o treat women with childbirth injuries. Sir Alexander McCall-Smith has supported the publication of this book by Birlinn books under his own imprint. All proceeds from the sale of the book support the Uganda Childbirth Injury Fund. It is a novel loosely based on the author’s experience.
