Ben Shankland & Sandy Watkin

The third of our  'Conversations in Music' jazz duo Spring series with Ben Shankland on piano and Sandy Watkin on trumpet.

Ben Shankland presents a series of duo performances with some of his favourite collaborators. Each concert will be a meeting of minds, with the two musicians coming together to explore a range of songbook classics, tunes from the wider jazz canon, and their own original compositions.

Ben Shankland -Winner of BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year, Ben Shankland has brought his music to audiences at top festivals and venues. His music shows clear
reverence for the jazz tradition, combined with unmistakable personality in every phrase, his 'easeful harmonising and sureness of touch leave one eager to hear more' (Scottish Jazz Space).

Sandy Watkin Born in Leith, raised in Glasgow, and now studying at the Guildhall school of music and drama, Sandy Watkin is one of the finest Scottish trumpet players to emerge on the scene in recent times. Sandy has been around the Scottish scene since the young age of 15, skipping school to do things like record on Kitti's recently released album 'somethin' in the water' and TAO's EP 'forever falling', and his command of the instrument means he continues to garner attention as 'one to watch' in the jazz world.
