Chris Baxter - Piano
A Scottish Arts Trust event
The music presented in this programme reflects a broad range of influence and inspiration. On the one hand we have composers born in Scotland exhibiting the influence from music from a variety of sources, and on the other hand composers from elsewhere being directly influenced by Scottish traditions and cultures.
The programme opens with two pieces by Inverness-born Alasdair Nicolson, who is currently director of the St Magnus International Festival in Orkney and an alumnus of The University of Edinburgh. These pieces take well-known tunes and embed them in imaginative piano figurations. 42nd Street Stomp is rhythmically vigorous and energetic, and I’ll Be Seeing You is impressionistic in its textures.
