Trio Ecossaise

Trio Ecossaise will perform pieces for clarinet, cello and piano including works by Nadia Boulanger, Max Bruch and Gwynth Walker.

Trio Ecossaise have performed together across Scotland for over twenty five years.
They enjoy programming cornerstone repertoire of Brahms and Beethoven (Skye
Chamber Music and Music in Lanark), alongside lesser known works by John Ireland
(Sunday at Seven, Helensburgh) and Glinka (Crail Festival) and 20th century pieces
including Muczynski and Nino Rota (Bute Music Society). A programme comprising
only female composers – Schumann, Farrenc, Tailleferre and Walker was very well
received (Music in Peebles and Kirkcaldy Music Society). In January 2025 Trio
Ecossaise gave the premiere of As The Feet Of A Deer written by Border’s
composer Helen Leach.

All three musicians hail from Scotland and were professionally trained at respected
conservatories – the Royal Northern College of Music and Indiana University
(Jennifer), Oxford University and the Guildhall School of Music (Harriet), the Royal
Scottish Academy and the Guildhall School of Music (Claire).  In addition to their
chamber music commitments, they each pursue busy and diverse freelance careers.
Jennifer returned to Scotland in 2006 after four years as principal clarinettist with the
Orchestra of the Algarve, Portugal. In the UK she has performed with orchestras
including the CBSO conducted by Andrew Nelsons and the RSNO, including
recordings with Marin Alsop. She has worked for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on
education and dementia projects. As a chamber musician Jennifer has broadcast on
BBC Radio 3, performed in the Aldeburgh Festival, the Algarve International Music
Festival, and at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London.

Harriet spent eight years freelancing in London before returning to Scotland in 2005.
She has toured with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and works regularly with their
education department delivering outreach programmes in schools, hospitals and
prisons. Harriet has performed on stage for cabaret and theatre and records
regularly with the Pumpkinseeds Session Orchestra.

Claire is very active both as an instrumental and song accompanist, also performing
as half of the Kilnaish Duo, and collaborating in a duo with baritone Phil Gault. Claire
has been a staff repetiteur at Scottish Opera, a Vocal Coach on ‘Vocal Inspiration’
and ‘Art of Song’ courses, is a staff accompanist & coach for the Scottish
International Flute Summer School, and holds accompaniment, coaching and
teaching posts at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow University music
department, and the music school of Douglas Academy, as well as being an
accompanist for NYCoS.
